Buffs who dig 1930s mystery movies might like this unusual Marc Dorcel tribute to that vanished art form. Don Adams used to spoof the William Powell standard format of rounding up all the suspects and grilling them en masse, to eventually identify the murderer, and here we have Philippe Soine doing the same thing in a porno context.
It features a colorful cast of characters: lovely Dora Venter as the beautiful blonde corpse, seen in hot action via flashbacks; Dolly Golden as the buxom wife, whose husband has been carrying on with mistress Venter; Horst Baron as the writer-husband's suspicious looking publisher; Ian Scott whose big dick is his calling card, and even diminutive servant Thomas, played by dwarf actor Thomas Santini.
Directed by Dorcel's house cameraman Serge de Beaurivage, the feature packs in a dozen concise sex scenes in the old-school mode, and is a lot of fun as the viewer can guess and change his mind repeatedly as to "who dunnit". What I especially appreciated is that this revival of an old warhorse of a plot structure is played straight, not as condescending parody. True fans of the old movies should have no trouble figuring out who the culprit turns out to be.
