Very funny Brazilian comedy, with excellent text and dialogs, well done character development, beautiful cinematography, competent acting. The rivalry and comradery between the priest and the reverend (Dionisio Azevedo and Leonardo Viklar) is a delight, and the romantic comedy in the backstage with their respective sidekicks also amuses. There is, among all the hilarious gags, a solid exploration of Brazilian culture, with some traits of different religions - Catholic, Protestant and Umbanda - treated in ironic and very clever ways. One year after this delicious comedy on religiousness, director Carlos Coimbra would make one more great film on that issue (also with impressive cinematography), a drama: A Madona de Cedro. To resume: O Santo Milagroso is a precious gem of Brazilian cinema which may not be forgotten.
