Mrs. Krantz, who runs a dilapidated hotel on the Atlantic coast with her daughter, has only two passions: gin and stories of gigolos that her neighbor Laurie used to voluptuously tell her, before being murdered by one of them, a certain Michel, who has just married for her money a young girl whose sister is aiming for the fortune. Mrs. Krantz sets off in pursuit of the murderer in a colorful saraband that goes from comedy to drama, and from laughter to screams.

Miss Marple in the world of gigolos , aging women and younger half- sisters at odds with each other ! Pathetic!

Danielle Darrieux ,whose career was the longest of all French actresses , is,along with beautiful talented Dominique Sanda ,the only reason why you would sit through this stodgy brew ; Truffaut's protégé, Léaud, overplays and is even more unbearable than ever ; the highly superior Lambert Wilson is not given a single chance to shine ; a confused screenplay does not help.
