Anecdotes
The tv series featured several of the smash hit songs from the movie including "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" and "Do You Love Me."

Gaffes
Set in 1963 in upstate New York's lower Catskills mountains region, there are several references to guest coming up to Kellerman's on the train. However, the last passenger train service to the region was discontinued in 1953 when the New York, Ontario and Western railroad discontinued its passenger trains through the lower Catskills on their line from Weehawkin, New Jersey to Walton, New York.

I liked it better than the movie

This series kind of missed its window of opportunity - but it didn't help that it was scheduled where it's target audience was sure to miss it. I actually liked it better than the movie. I thought the writing was better and the acting in many ways was better. I thought Patrick Cassidy had a better feel of who Johnny Castle was than his movie counterpart. All in all, I thought the series had a better feel for the characters and period. It's a shame it never found an audience.
