This is a decent Spaghetti/Chorizo Western titled Per mille dollari al giorno (original title) well realized by a craftsman , Silvio Amadio. It concerns a man (introducing Zachary Hatcher) , trains himself target practice to become the best shot in the West . Later on ,he is really trained by Carranza (Pepe Calvo) , an expert shooter in wheelchair . He becomes a tough gunfighter in order to get rid of a band of killers who murdered his parents in their home when they rejected to sell their ownership to pass the railway . The nasty killers are the ruthless Clark Brothers : Jason Clark (as Ruben Rojo) , Wayne Clark (Mirko Ellis) , Lon Clark (Manuel Gil) . After a training period Scott returns the small town where their murdered parents lived , to exact a merciless vendetta . Scott Baker carries out his assignment by means of a cruel manner , as he executes a slaughter and atrocity , he pulls off a single-handedly revenge, slashes, , ravages and kills each person involved in the massacre . He is relentless in his vendetta , deadly in his violence . The conflict is simple , one between avenger Scott Baker against also relentless killers , the Clark Brothers , never hesitating to kill. Meanwhile , Scott rekindles his love to an old girlfriend (Pier Angeli) married to a two-fisted sheriff (Mimmo Palmara or Dick Palmer) .
This spaghetti western has noisy action , showdown , evil landowners taking properties , barroom brawl , native american attacks , and a final trial . It's a thrilling western with breathtaking showdown between the protagonist , the newcomer Zachary Hatcher , and the enemy : Ruben Rojo , Mirko Ellis , Manuel Gil and their hoodlums . This exciting western contains a story full of violence , good dramatic pace and slick direction . Passable Chorizo-Spaghetti Western decently produced by Spain and Italy ; it follows the Sergio Leone wake , including close-up , zooms , choreographic duels and no being proceeded in American style . The film packs thrills , shootouts , drama , high body-count and it's fast moving and quite entertaining . It's a moving western with spectacular outdoors and breathtaking confrontation among heartless protagonists , Zachary Hatcher and his nemesis Ruben Rojo , and then things go wrong when Zachary is contracted by the Clark Brothers as a hired gun and he kills them one by one . Acceptable action sequences with rousing crossfire and spectacularly bloody shootouts , including Indian attacks and usual final appearance by cavalry with trumpet sounds . Charismatic performance for the whole casting . Stars the unknown Zachary Hatcher in his only film . Co-stars the beautiful and sweet Pier Angeli . She was actress Marisa Pavan's sister . Her first role was an uncredited part in 1948's The Million Dollar Nickel (1952), an Italian production. Pier was 16 at the time and it was to be the first of many roles for this beautiful woman. The film was largely forgettable but it was a start. The following year she played in another Italian production, Tomorrow is too late (1950). Again it was a very small role, and she was not seen on the screen again until 1951. Between 1949 and 1951 she appeared in stage productions and found work in menial jobs. Later that year she won the title role in Teresa (1951). However, she again hit a drought with only one film in 1952 and two in 1953. The next year things began to pick up, however, with Hollywood beckoning at her door. After the Italian Mademoiselle Nitouche (1954) she caught the eyes of Hollywood moguls, who cast her in Flame and the Flesh (1954) and Silver Chalice (1954). Now she divided her time between Italy and the US making movies. She married Vic Damone in 1954, a union that lasted only four years and produced one son. No film offers came in 1955, but in 1956 Pier landed the plum role of Norma Graziano , wife of fighter Rocky Graziano , in Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956) opposite Paul Newman. The film was well received at the box office and she had hopes that things were going to pick up again. She played Ynez in Port Africa (1956) later that year and then another drought ensued. After The Vintage (1957), Marry Andrew (1958) and S.O.S, Pacífic (1959), she made three more films in 1960. Then once again 1961 saw no appearances. In 1962 Pier played Ildith in Sodom and Gomorra (1962) and later that year played in a French production entitled L'ammutinamento (1961). After the Italian production of Panic in Bangkok (1964) she returned in the hit European-American co-production The battle of Bugle (1965). After a handful of films between 1966 and 1970, Pier realized her dreams of superstardom were not to be. She had divorced her second husband : the musician Armando Trovajoli in 1969 and made her final appearance on the screen in 1971 in the low-budget sci-fi opus Octaman (1971). On September 10 of that year Pier was found dead of a barbiturate overdose in her Beverly Hills home. She was only 39 years old. Being a Spanish/Italian production , here shows up regular Western actors , as Spaniard players : José Calvo of Leone's Fistful of dollars , Ruben Rojo , Manuel Gil ,Enrique Ávila , Angel Menendez , and Italian ones as Mimmo Palmara or Dick Palmer ,Mirko Ellis , and Tom Felleghy .
The musician Gino Peguri composes a nice soundtrack , well conducted , this turns out to be one of the most memorable parts of the movie , as it's plenty of enjoyable sounds and haunting musical background and with agreeable leitmotif .And catching songs at the beginning and the end titled ¨My Gun is Fast¨ sung by Bobby Solo . Atmospheric and nice cinematography by Mario Pacheco , though a perfect remasterization being extremely necessary . Including good sets, filmed on locations in Colmenar Viejo , Manzanares Del Real , Madrid , and desert of Tabernas , Almeria . Being produced by the Spanish production Company : Petruka Film and Italian : Tirso Film . The motion picture titled Por mil dólares al día (Spain) or Renegade Gunfighter (United States) or For One Thousand Dollars Per Day (United States) or Pour mille dollars par jour (France) or 1.000 dollar för revolverman (Sweden) was professionally directed by Silvio Amadio , though it gets some flaws , gaps and failures . Silvio was a fine artisan who worked in various jobs in the cinematic industry , such as : Makeup Department , Second Unit Director or Assistant Director , production and finally , filmmaking . As he directed all kinds of genres , such as : ¨Sex Comedies¨, many of them starred by his wife Gloria Guida : Il medico... la studentessa or Los caprichos de Gloria , Quella età maliziosa, Peccati di gioventù or Pecados de juventud , Oltraggio al pudore , La minorenne ; ¨Thrillers¨ : Il segreto del vestito rosso , Il carabiniere , L'ammutinamento , Alla ricerca del piacere . And he made Sword and Sandal movies as Seven thunderbolts or Le sette folgori di Assur or War Gods of Babylone (1962) and also realized another Peplum titled ¨Minotaur the wild beast of Creta¨ his greates hit. Rating : 5.5/10 .
