It's not a bad film, but there is not much good you can say about it. It's a routine revolutionary melodrama with operatic intrigues of political masquerade and the ordeals of women with terrible secrets, one of them hiding away a child of her husband's with another woman, which child eventually grows up to become a key figure of the revolution of Milan against the Austrians, as she has the keys. She is also the lover of the revolutionary leader, who disguises himself as the secretary of state (after having disposed of the real one) and thus double crosses the establishment, to bring weapons to the rebels. The revolution eventually breaks out with full force and crowns the film. It is all extremely superficial, trite and conventional, there is no finesse, no special cinematography, and very little life - it is like an ordinary standard plain opera. The love is not convincing, although Luisella Boni makes a favourable impression by her beauty and simplicity as a very sympathetic character, providing the key to the entire plot. But the males are all clichés, for all their passions and intrigues. The boys are the best, though.
