Mysterious Crossing played as part of a double bill as it ran under an hour and it offers viewers mostly familiar minor pleasures: The solving of a mystery, with the running gag that reporter James Dunn keeps pulling his sidekick Andy Devine away to help him investigate whereas Andy wants to finish eating; but the villain is kind of obvious as he is revealed through his swimming skills.
The setting in picturesque New Orleans shows little of that city except a few stock shots.
There is some typical Universal mood music and some shadowy lighting by ace lenser Milton Krasner.
