The first of a couple of The Mask themed shorts made by the same team, it's really hard to get across quite what they've done here.
Did they go in the direction of the Hollywood feature movie and approach the content as a colorful goofy family film?
Did they go in the direction of the original source material, dark, twisted and gory?
No, they made a 7 minute film about two viking looking chaps fighting on a beach over the mask.
Yeah, that's basically it. Interesting angle, but I'm not sure quite why they went for it. Don't get me wrong I understand the origins of the Mask and it's links to Loki but a short focusing on nothing but this? Odd call.
So did it pay off? Absolutely not. A short should have more substance than a single weak fight scene. Sure it looks the part, but the Mask? Really?
I'm curious to see what they did with the second short, but if it's anything like this I can only assume it'll be a barely relevant pointless few minutes.
The Good:
Looks professionally done
The Bad:
Simply baffling choice of material
