Set in the 14th Century, 'Ophelia' is a re-imagining of Shakespeare's "Hamlet." Ophelia (Daisy Ridley) takes center stage as Queen Gertrude's (Naomi Watts) most trusted lady-in-waiting. Beautiful and intelligent, she soon captures the attention of the handsome Prince Hamlet (George MacKay) and a forbidden love blossoms. As war brews, lust and betrayal are tearing Elsinore Castle apart from within and Ophelia must decide between her true love or her own life in order to protect a very dangerous secret.

"Hamlet" Act 2 scene 2 page 5 when Ophelias father Polonius reads aloud a letter from Hamlet containing the lines "Doubt that the stars are fire Doubt that the sun doth move Doubt truth to be a liar But never doubt I love"

Not Shakespeare, but not awful

I love Shakespeare, but I've also always had a soft spot for Ophelia. This reimagining of Hamlet is not faithful to the original text, so have an open mind and you may enjoy it. I don't generally like movies that apply modern sensibilities to classic stories and characters, but this one was tolerable. The acting was fine, the sets and costumes beautiful. Overall it was a fine film. But if you're a purist, don't bother.
