Author of several books on rock and pop music, including "Yes We Have No" (1999) and "20th Century Dreams" (1999). He provided the text for Guy Peellaert's illustrations in "Rock Dreams" (1972). He is also a novelist ("Need") and travel writer ("The Heart of the World", Thomas Cook Award for best travel book of 1992), and is producing bounce records.
Was paid $90,000 for the movie rights to his 1976 "New York" magazine article, "Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night", about how the disco craze affected Italian-American teenagers in the working-class section of Brooklyn. It was eventually made into the movie La fièvre du samedi soir (1977).
