Writer/Director Zacharia Lorenz's "The Elevator" is a cute story of mustering the courage to make that first move.
Sam (played by Drew Grubich)starts working at a new company and winds up riding the elevator with a beautiful woman (played by Lily Delamere)but he can't even gather the courage to say "hello". Grubich, does well here, adequately displaying his discomfort and nervousness with simple expressions. Delamere was equally good, though with far fewer lines, and is beautifully coy as a woman who catches those peeks from Sam but plays it close.
Authentic Productions, an independent production company out of Tucson, Az, has a gift for putting stories together that not only can be told in a few short minutes, but also draw in viewers and keep them entertained. The remarkable thing about that is that they do it all with a small budget, usually around $3,000 or less. The only way this film would have really benefited from a bigger budget was in the sound quality. Given the sparse dialogue, however, this is something that was easily forgotten within the first few minutes.
In 2011, this short film was presented at The University of Arizona Festival Campus MovieFest, and snagged the Best Actor Award (Drew Grubich), as well as a nomination for Best Comedy. Later in 2011, it was also included in Authentic Productions' Best of 2011 Films, along with four other short films by Authentic Productions.
Authentic Productions never fails to deliver, and you will definitely want to see what they present when they are touring the next festival circuit.
