At the beginning of the film, after a man empties out the contents of the backpack and doesn't find anything valuable and leaves it, a homeless looking young girl approaches it and begins to pick up the contents. There are several letters and one of the letters she picks up has on the envelope written "mac guffin", this is a reference to a plot device popularly used in films known as a MacGuffin in which an object serves as the form of some goal, desired object, or other motivator that the protagonist pursues, often with little or no narrative explanation- just like the backpack in this film.

A whole new world of filmmaking

The Owner is truly one of the most amazing films I've seen in the last years.

Personally I feel the story of making the Owner is as big as the film itself - 25 directors from all over the world gather their resources to create one film. A film like this would have been impossible to make just years ago but now, in the time of networking over the internet, a whole new world opens up for independent filmmakers.

Specifically interesting about The Owner is the story the filmmakers created to weave all their different segments into one whole story. The Owner is not a collection of short stories but a journey. A journey of a backpack which travels the world.

I am very curious to see what else we'll see from CollabFeature during the next years.
