Jane Got a Gun centers on Jane Hammond, who has built a new life with her husband Bill "Ham" Hammond after being tormented by the ultra-violent Bishop Boys outlaw gang. She finds herself in the gang's cross-hairs once again when Ham stumbles home riddled with bullets after dueling with the Boys and their relentless mastermind Colin. With the vengeful crew hot on Ham's trail, Jane has nowhere to turn but to her former fiancé Dan Frost for help in defending her family against certain destruction. Haunted by old memories, Jane's past meets the present in a heart-stopping battle for survival.

After a long period of production issues since 2012, involving director and casting changes, principal photography began on March 21, 2013. Jane Got a Gun (2015) was released in Europe in November 2015, and in the U.S. on January 29, 2016. It was filmed on location in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Errores
After missing her target horribly while learning to shoot a pistol, Jane picks up a rifle to demonstrate that she can shoot that type of firearm well. Jane then proceeds to shoot the handle off of an ax. No settler out in the middle of nowhere would shoot the handle off of a much needed and precious implement such as an ax just to prove a point.

It's just a stick and it looks to be a replacement for the last stick/handle. The precious part of is the steel axehead.

Pleasant surprise

I went into this movie with no expectations, and was pleasantly surprised. It's being called "slow," which I suppose it is, by Thor and Iron Man standards, but not in a way that bothered me - I wasn't expecting an action-packed story, because, well, I don't mind if a movie has dialog. I thought the pacing was great, and I loved the way the audience slowly finds out what happened, through flashbacks from several different points of view. I didn't mind that Jane wasn't a super hero, just a determined woman, who was strong because life demanded it of her. It felt very realistic. It's not a perfect movie, but it's worth seeing for great performances and gorgeous scenery (filmed on location in New Mexico). I think this movie will do well on video or streaming, if it finds the right audience (that is, people like me) - I'm certainly telling my friends about it.
