I've seen a lot of animes in the last few years, but this one is definitely unique. It has a European kind of feel, with almost Nordic(?) sounding names and places. The story is non-linear, so it can be difficult to follow at times, but if you have the time and inclination, its worth it.
The story comes in the middle of a conflict between the Armed Librarians and the Church of Drowning in God's Grace (cool name!). The Armed Librarians look after the 'books' at Bantorra Library. When people die, the story of their life is recorded in a stone tablet called a book, and if u place your hand on it, you can see flashes of that person's life. This heretical church seems to be intent on getting to 'heaven' through fulfilling all of life's desires and becoming a True Man...while the Armed Librarians are the guardians of peace and justice n stuff...
Some of the True Man stuff lost me, and it can get confusing jumping around in time. Plus the Acting Director of the Armed Librarians, Hamyuets Meseta, seems like a lunatic, and u never know if she's one of the good guys or not. There is a few other likable characters, with odd names, like Mirepoc Finedel, Noloty Malche and Volken Macmani. The story has a few twists, plenty of action and a long, confusing but ultimately interesting enough storyline...just don't get too attached to any of the characters haha.
