With all that has been said about this Disney Sitcom, I'm surprised anything else can be added. First there's Demi Lovato. I knew her from that lame, unfunny interstitial sitcom "As the Bell Rings," who wore way too much lipstick. Later on, of course after seeing the music video for "Get Back" I realized that the Disney Channel was probably trying to plug her as their own version of Pat Benetar, and she wasn't half bad. When I first heard about this show, my memories raced back to that episode of "That's So Raven" where Cory Baxter won a spot on a sitcom, and Brookwell-McNamara Productions tried to spin the star of that fictional sitcom off onto a show of her own. Later, I found out this would involve sketch comedy. I still decided to give it a chance anyhow and much to my surprise, it actually worked, and Demi was actually funny.
Lovato played as Sonny Munroe, a girl who evidently had a funny web-show, and won a contest to be a new cast-member on the kids sketch comedy show "So Random!," an obvious clone of Nickelodeon's once fierce competitor with Saturday Night Live known as "All That!" What she finds is more or less what a lot of people find out about Hollywood.
Tiffany Thornton plays Tawni Hart, the stuck-up princess of the show, who is insanely jealous of Sonny at first, but eventually learns to accept her as the series progresses.
Zora Lancaster, played by Allisyn Ashely Arm is not as sweet and adorable as she acts on the show. She's supposed to have a genius IQ, but her odd-ball personality is what stands out more behind the scenes. A lot of people found her annoying. I found her hilarious.
Former iCarly wrestling team member Doug Brochu and Brandon Mychal Smith play Grady Mitchell and Nico Harris respectively. Both of them tend to dominate "B-stories" during many episodes.
Sterling Knight is Chad Dylan Cooper, the teen heartthrob plays as the star of the show next door, "MacKenzie Falls." While every other girl in America, or anywhere else the series is shown falls head over heels for him, the cast of So Random knows he and his cast-members are stuck-up arrogant SOBs who think their type of show is superior to sketch comedy. So naturally both shows hate each other, and Munroe learns to hate them to, but the rivalry creates some budding sexual tension between Munroe and Cooper, although Cooper has a lot more in common with Miss Hart.
Like "Less Than Perfect," and later "Victorious," the fourth episode of this series gave me the best impression of how good it really is, when they rehearsed a hysterical spoof of the "reality TV" show, "So You Think You Can Dance," which if you haven't seen by now... well, let's just say you could end up doing what the other "dancers" try to avoid doing.
Since "So Random" was inspired by All That, it often leaves one wondering if the sitcom is in reality a semi-autobiographical story of the cast and crew of the series, and also makes you wonder if the cast of "All That" ever had a real-life rivalry with,... oh perhaps the cast of Dawson's Creek. Unfortunately, the series ended up with some real drama after Miss Lovato's widely publicized nervous breakdown near the end of the second season. The former supporting cast, which now play the same characters on the formerly fictional sketch comedy series may be good, but the ones inherited from this series aren't the same without Miss Lovato. Which is too bad, because I would've like to see more on-stage and behind the scenes antics between Demi Lovato and the rest of the cast.
