The film began production in the summer of 2003 with a different story, one that would work as a prequel to what the final film became, which explores the "Bryan Sage" characters origin. Production halted early in 2004 and resumed with a different storyline in the summer of 2004. Bryan Sage's flashbacks in the final film were taken from footage shot for the original version.
