Dame Sybil Thorndike was one of the legendary British actresses mostly known for her performances on stage, television, and film. In one of the early silent adaptations of Charles Dickens' classic novel, "Bleak House," she plays Lady of the manor who has a deep dark secret. Of course, the film is only about 10 minutes long in my version. Anyway, the short silent film has unforgettable Thorndike in a leading role. You can judge from her facial expressions of what a brilliant actress she was in that time period even without speaking. The rest of the cast do an adequate job in their performances. Of course, the lady's secret slowly becomes known and she could lose everything in her life especially being married to a British Lord, comfortable living, and a leisurely life. I am surprised by the omission of Hortense character on the cast list since she's an essential female character in this film. I wonder who plays her because she did a fabulous job.
