The Vikings' disparate armor can be explained by the Norse tradition of taking the armor of a vanquished foe. It was also a display of status in Norse society; the nicer the armor the higher the position. Halga appears to have a Roman gladiator's helmet.

Errores
While most warriors discarded their original weapons to swim under the cliffs, they acquired new ones: Buliwyf is given a sword by the king, Herger uses an unfamiliar halberd, and Edgtho's knives are borrowed. Thus, the last fight is not wrong.

Versiones alternativas
The original version, known as Eaters of the Dead and Directed by John McTiernan was originally 127 minutes and slated to be released in May of 1998. But when the film failed test screenings Michael Crichton took over the project and reshot and added new material to the film. He was also involved with the reediting of the film as well and rejected composer Graeme Revell's hour long score. This version of the film has not been seen publicly.

Why is this movie so underrated?

Criminally underappreciated adventure! It mixes real Arab traveller Ahmad Ibn Fadlan, mythical story of Beowulf and Neolithic cavemen. The more you know about these three, the more enjoyment you will get from this movie. I can easily understand how people unfamiliar with these subjects were just lost and confused, feeling not helped by choppy editing where even important side characters just disappear without a trace!

I love it! Banderas is great balancing charm and humor in equal measure. Vladimir Kulich is spot on as the Viking leader Buliwyf. It's also strange and great to see sword and sorcery movie where main protagonist prays for Allah before final battle.

Where is bluray with extras? Where is directors cut? Take my money already!!!
