Was brought up in a dispute between film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert on their syndicated television show Siskel & Ebert & the Movies (1986). The same week, the critically acclaimed Cara de guerra (1987) was released, and Ebert gave it a mixed review. Meanwhile, Ebert gave "thumbs up" to Benji the Hunted, which Siskel gave thumbs down. Siskel claimed that Ebert liked Benji the Hunted more than Full Metal Jacket. Ebert's favorable review of Benji the Hunted was again brought up when Siskel and Ebert appeared on the animated sitcom El crítico (1994).

Errores
Grizzly bears are not modernly found in Oregon. This bear species has been extirpated from this northwestern American state since the early 20th Century. They can modernly be found in western Canada and Alaska. Timber wolves currently inhabit Alaska, Canada, portions of the Great Lakes region and northwestern American states (specifically Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming).

Mary Beth McLaulin: Tonight, Benji is missing at sea. He was with his trainer, Frank Inn, in a small open fishing boat just off the coast when the boat capsized. Mr. Inn was rescued. He was taken here to the Coast Guard station in Newport where he apparently is in good condition, but Benji is still missing.

One for animal and nature lovers

This is a film appreciated most by those who enjoy nature and animals. There is little speaking in the film as the star of the film is Benji, and he is lost in the wild and away from humans. (There is maybe a minute or two of dialogue at most in the entire film.) This film entirely focuses on Benji and some wild kittens that he takes care of in the wild and tries to keep from danger. It's a cute film, but it also shows us the not-so-cute side of nature when some of the kittens end up in fatal situations. A touching film, Benji the Hunted will be enjoyed by children and it sends a good and honest message to us about nature and survival.
