Three years after her last film "DU BIST WUNDERBAR / You are wonderful", the great singer Caterina VALENTE ventured onto the big screen again. Directed by two-time GOLDEN GLOBE winner Kurt HOFFMANN (he received the prestigious Hollywood award for "Felix Krull" and "We Wunderkinder"), VALENTE played a modern Snow White.
Dr. Anita Rossi (Caterina VALENTE) works as a heating engineer in Zurich and is supposed to get the heating in an old hotel in St. Moritz up to scratch. Norbert Lang (Walter GILLER) has just inherited the old place, is quite a snob and completely inexperienced in the hotel business. On the journey into the powder snow, the chaotic driver Anita ends up in the circus wagon of a seven-person troupe of jugglers (including Georg THOMALLA and Günther SCHRAMM), who immediately recognize the brilliant Zurich woman as their "Snow White". It is Anita who gets the acrobatically skilled jugglers a job in the hotel. Anita no longer finds his snobbish boss so unsympathetic, but there is also the busy entertainer Ines Del Mar (Hanne WIEDER), whom the hotel manager has hired as the main attraction for the hotel's New Year's Eve gala...
This is certainly not Kurt HOFFMANN's best film, and Caterina VALENTE never made another trip to the screen after that. Nevertheless, this version of Snow White is excellently filmed and provides a nostalgic treat. Beautiful pictures from Switzerland, lively songs and a lot of charm make this "Frostical" a special experience.
