This film is one of over 200 titles in the list of independent feature films made available for television presentation by Advance Television Pictures announced in Motion Picture Herald 4 April 1942. At this time, television broadcasting was in its infancy, almost totally curtailed by the advent of World War II, and would not continue to develop until 1945-1946. Because of poor documentation (feature films were often not identified by title in conventional sources) no record has yet been found of its initial television broadcast. In Los Angeles its earliest documented telecast occurred Thursday 13 January 1949 on KFI (Channel 9), in Salt Lake City Monday 6 June 1949 on KDYL (Channel 4), and in New York City 22 January 1951 on WJZ (Channel 7).

The horse and the goat

Before Sam Katzman bought his penny pinching ways to Monogram he produced other cheapies for other poverty row outfits. In this case Silks And Saddles was for an outfit called Victory Pictures.

Bruce Bennett was still under his real name of Herman Brix when he starred in this film. He's playing a college student who inherits a race horse but said horse is earning his keep pulling a milk wagon. Something in real life no thoroughbred would be doing.

He needs money to race him in the big handicap so he incorporates the horse and shares are bought by his college pals. The local hangout owner Fuzzy Knight takes a couple of shares too.

The horse has a pet mascot that's a goat named Adolph. They are a team and the horse gives it that extra kick when he hears Adolph bray.

The main competition seems to be Toby Wing and her horse, but some gamblers have plans for both.

Not a bad film considering it has zero production values. The last 20 minutes are a long involved chase sequence to get the horse to the track. What Hal Roach could have done with it.
