I wasn't. If you look at the Emmys of the late 50s they were divided by the length of the show. There was an award for best show half hour or less, and one for best show one hour or more. There was a major award for camerawork. Awards for actors and actresses were divided into comic and dramatic, however. Anthology shows carried the day as did variety shows. Robert Young won best dramatic actor, and his show "Father Knows Best" was one of the very few nominated that had continuity. Not so much in the "tune in next week" sense, but in the sense that everybody played the same character every week. Just like the first cars really did look like horseless carriages, the first TV shows were like radio shows you could actually see.
You couldn't be happy at how people have evolved over the last 63 years if you studied it. Some of the episodes of the anthology shows are in those public domain packs that Mill Creek puts out. You will immediately notice how cerebral they are and that a modern audience would be put to sleep by the lack of car chases, explosions, nudity, and violence.
