Saori Oishi (Erika Sawajiri) a former singer in a 'one-hit-wonder' girl-group, along with her grey cat Yoshio (sometimes played by Ryo Yoshizawa), is hiding from reminders of her past as a check-out clerk at a grocery store when she meets Tamotsu Goto (Kazunobu Mineta), a 'failed' painter and his calico cat Kiiro Yellow (sometimes played by Kom I.). The light-weight film is a mix of realism, fantasy, theatrics (a number of scenes are filmed stage sets), and animation. The numerous cats in the film switch from animals to people who offer their perspectives on what's going on (not in cat costumes but 'colour coded' e.g. Kom wears yellow pants, a white shirt, and a black vest when embodying the calico cat). I watched the film with English subtitles on an airplane, so not an ideal venue, but I quite liked it. Tentatively recommended (but I'm unsure to whom, disclaimer: I m a 'cat person').
