Carmilla (Jessa Flux) is the "mother" to a group of young ladies who lure men to their death so that they can be eaten in Donald Farmer's remake of his 1987 cult classic.
CANNIBAL HOOKERS 2020 is a film that I can't review because I got to spend a couple days on set plus my wife is in it and I have a very brief role in it. I must say that after watching and reviewing thousands of movies it was really strange watching a film that you saw get made and it was really cool getting to see how things were done behind-the-scenes and how they turned out in the film.
I went to Farmer's HOOKER WITH A HACKSAW premiere in Lexington, Kentucky and was invited by its star Kasper Meltedhair to see some filming on this movie. It turns my wife was invited to play one of the hookers so I'm not going to complain about that. It was really fascinating getting to see how the special effects were done (by Mason Roberts) and see the various decisions that were being made by Farmer. Having gotten to know Farmer a little bit it was even more interesting seeing his love of films and the various winks that were in the movie.
Being on the set also gave me a new perspective when it comes to these movies. I've been watching these low-budget horror movies all my life and I've always wondered what a shooting day must be like and getting to see that was really cool and especially considering it was someone like Farmer whose films I've watched for years now. It really made me appreciate what filmmakers have to do and how things are constantly changing depending on how things are going on that shooting day.
As far as the film itself goes, if you're a fan of the director's work then I'm sure you'll get a kick out of it. Again, I had an added joy watching it since I got to see the behind-the-scenes stuff but even if I take that out of it I think people will enjoy it for what it is. There's a good mixture of blood and violence and there's nudity thrown in as well. I know it's "cool" to try and re-create the vibe of an 80s movie but I thought this film really nailed that at times. There's a nice flow to the film and overall I think fans of SOV horror films should enjoy it.
