I have to admit that I wasn't exactly harboring much of any expectations to this 2017 Taiwanese thriller titled "Zui Wan Mei De Nu Hai" (aka "The Perfect Girl"), as the synopsis wasn't exactly all that interesting. But with it being an Asian movie I hadn't already seen, nor actually heard about, of course I opted to give the movie a fair chance.
And as it turned out, writers Yu-Chen Wang and Tsung-Ling Yeh put together a surprisingly well-written and entertaining script and storyline. I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 95 minutes that the movie ran for. I enjoyed how the script and storyline started out as a fairly straight forward and somewhat generic script, but then does a 180 and fully throws the audience off of its track. I certainly hadn't foreseen the twists and turns the story took along the way, and that made "Zui Wan Mei De Nu Hai" all the more enjoyable to watch.
I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, given my somewhat limited exposed to the Taiwanese cinema. But I will say that they had a good cast ensemble, and the actors and actresses put on good performances in bringing the story and the characters to life on the screen. Especially leading actress Tia Yu-Fen Lee (playing Yeh Hsin) carried the movie quite well.
For a thriller, then "Zui Wan Mei De Nu Hai" was actually rather good. It wasn't just a run-of-the-mill thriller that followed the how-to-make-a-thriller blueprint. So director Remus Kam definitely was on to something here. If you enjoy thrillers, then this 2017 Taiwainese movie is well-worth sitting down to watch.
My rating of "Zui Wan Mei De Nu Hai" lands on a six out of ten stars.
