Born and raised in China, and having spent her late teenage years in Canada, Ran is an award-winning filmmaker whose work has been recognized at film festivals worldwide. Her directorial debut, Model, premiered at the 43rd Asian American International Film Festival, winning the Emerging Director award. The film was also screened at prestigious festivals including Edmonton International Film Festival, Woodstock Film festival, Shanghai International Film Festival, where it received the New Talent award. Most recently, the film was picked up by United Entertainment Partners and theatrically released in China. Prior to making live-action films, Ran established herself as a story artist in the feature animation industry. During her six years in the field, she collaborated with Academy Award-winning directors and producers, including Carlos Saldanha, Steve Martino and Aron Warner, on blockbuster films such as Wish Dragon, The Peanuts Movie, and the Rio franchise. She studied Psychology at University of British Columbia and film production at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
