Andreas Wolff became a professional windsurfer at the age of 17. He was ranked 2nd at King of the Lake Freestyle World Cup, outrunning two world champions. He competed on the Windsurfers' World Pro Tour for more than ten years, finishing top five and top ten at various competitions. As an athlete, he received a NEA award for Best Windsurfing Newcomer. He also produced award winning magazine articles and video clips, discovering remote windsurfing destinations in the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific.
In 2006, Andreas took a turn and enrolled at University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. He focused on narrative filmmaking, screenwriting and producing. Later, Andreas continued his studies at University of Television and Film Munich's Documentary Film Program.
His feature documentary debut On the Other Side of Life (2009) premiered at US' and Europe's prestigious film festivals, SXSW in Austin and Dok Leipzig. The film was awarded Best Feature Film at Milan Film Festival and received jury awards at Camden, Ronda and Dok Munich International Film Festivals.
His second feature The Captain and His Pirate (2013) was officially selected at Berlinal International Film Festival. It received a German Camera Award for Best Editing, a Doc Alliance Award Nomination as well as jury awards at Dok Leipzig, Zagreb, Dok Munich and Millennium Brussels International Film Festivals.
His latest feature Hissa Hilal - Eine Stimme hinter dem Schleier (2017) premiered at the prestigious Locarno Film Festival (Semaine de la Critique) and IDFA documentary film festival in Amsterdam. It was awarded at the German Documentary Awards (Norbert Daldrop prize) and was part of the European Film Award Documentary Selection 2018.
Andreas' films were aired by ARTE, Canal Plus, BBC, ZDF and ARD, among others. In 2020, he joined Leonine Studios as a producer/director for documentaries and drama series.
