Curiosidades
The original title when filming first began in early 2014 was "Ekaterina Velikaya", or "Catherine the Great". When director Aleksandr Baranov's television series Catalina (2014) ("Catherine") was released in November of 2014, in order to avoid confusion, the title was shortened to "Velikaya", or, simply, "The Great".

Forget the woeful English & American productions. Watch this.

This is exquisite.

Subtitled as it's in Russian. Accuracy and quality of this series is outstanding in every way.

The cringey depictions of this accomplished woman in the Nick Hoult crass farce and equally crass and slapstick Helen Mirren grotty version are embarrassing compared to te Russian TV series.

Fabulous actors, gorgeous sets in authentic locations & no exaggerated adolescent scripts or the endless tedious fixation on base sex scenes. Just actual history which is totally entertaining, fascinating & involving.

First series is consistently excellent. Now watching Catherine 11 covering later years.
