We enter the film in Bulgaria. Melanie (played by Simona Rose) and her boyfriend Veselin (played by Miroslav Petkov) have been living there for about a year. So far, they have been finding it hard to find friends in their new location. Right from the start, we are introduced to the premise as Melanie is standing out on the street, when she comes across a Polish woman named Kelly (played by Elitza Zlateva.) The situation at home isn't the best. It would seem there is some tension between Melanie and Veselin. He works a lot, leaving Melanie to her own devices. She is getting bored of this life, without a friend to confide in, perhaps hangout with. The relationship between the two girls deepens as Melanie spends more of her time with her new foreign friend. There is a great scene where Veselin is talking about a work colleague and how his marriage had disintegrated due to the husband becoming jealous and possessive. This will become an important piece of information in the storyline. There are nice tonal changes happening in the story arc, from a lighter tone in the beginning, (with great accompanying music) to a darker tone as we progress further into the film (where the music amps up.) I like the characterisation of the main characters, and although we know nothing substantial about their backgrounds or history, it isn't needed in this instance. Authentic dialogue helps to push the narration. The script is easy enough to follow, as it is a very relatable and believable story. It is also easy enough to comprehend the tension, suspense and to grasp the scenario. Veselin's attitude towards Melanie changes dramatically. In his rage, he does something he shouldn't. He doesn't realise he is pushing her away, and perhaps she will find solace when she goes to visit Kelly at her home. Although it was perhaps foreshadowed, as this is such a relevant story that many people have been through and experienced themselves, it is still a surprise ending. But wait, there is more! After the credits roll a scene happens when Veselin is on the phone with his friend Mike (played by Rudy Ledbetter) that is sure to make you grin at the irony of the situation.
Overall, this is another great film by Miroslav Petkov. This filmmaker is doing very well in the Indie scene, and he is one to watch out for in the future. I would suggest you watch some of his other films, as they are great stories, like this one, where the characters are never what they seem.
