I stumbled upon the 2022 Vietnamese drama thriller "Cô Gái Tu Quá Khu" (aka "Girl From the Past") by random chance here in 2023. Needless to say that with my fascination and love of the Asian cinema that of course I had to sit down and watch it without ever having heard about it.
And seeing that the movie had scored a 7.3 rating here on IMDb, when I sat down to watch the movie, I figured that I would be in for quite a treat here.
Director Namcito didn't manage to deliver a particularly wholesome movie here. It was a movie that was flawed in terms of a very slow paced narrative with very little of anything interesting to offer the audience. And also a confusing character gallery.
I gave up on the movie after about suffering through an hour of virtually nothing interesting happening. And with a large character gallery of not really knowing who was who or what their motivations were, I just simply tossed the towel in the ring. The narrative simply wasn't worth wasting any more time on.
I am sure that the acting performances in the movie were adequate. However, I didn't find much enjoyment there either, solely because I didn't have a grasp on the characters. Needless to say that I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble here. But then again, I am not all that familiar with Vietnamese cinema.
This movie was a dull movie experience, and the movie's cover was actually the most exciting and thrilling part of the ordeal. If you enjoy Asian cinema, then this is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on.
My rating of "Cô Gái Tu Quá Khu" lands on a three out of ten stars.
