The Engagement

"I recently watched 'The Engagement' (2016). The story kicks off with one of the leads being rather mean to the gateman, and along with her group of equally selfish/manipulative girlfriends, they don't exactly win you over from the start. However, what goes around comes around, and the film cleverly serves up consequences as the plot unfolds.

But what I really liked was the cute subplot involving the household help. These subplots can be a gem in Nollywood movies, offering a fresh perspective and sometimes even stealing the show. 'The Engagement' had me invested in the lives of these supporting characters, and it added depth and variety to the overall narrative.

In the end, it's fascinating to see how these movies use the treatment of household help and other supporting roles to establish the moral compass of the main characters. It's a clever storytelling device that often pays off in the form of character redemption or well-deserved consequences.

After seeing Felix Ugo Omokhodion play a one-woman man in Hell Mary, it was interesting to see him play a villain.
