When the streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime are ruling the viewer's world,Zee5 has come up with this little miniseries .The series consisting of eight episodes is penned by Bhavani Iyer(Co writer of Black,Lootera and Raazi) and directed by Sonam Nair. The series has quite a surprising cast of Dia Mirza and Mohit Raina.
The series is based on a Pakistani woman Kainaaz (Dia Mirza) who has been detained by Indian army as a suspected militant in Kashmir .Vedant Rathore ,a journalist ventures to seek justice for her and her daughter who was born in Indian prison.
The series is really given the approach it deserves i.e not being excessively patriotic and no redundant subplots. The series is handled with utmost sincerity and precision.I guess the writing and the course of events are too over simplified some times for all types of audiences to understand and that's where people who have watched various internationally popular web series will be dissatisfied it turns to be one of the intentionally made shortcomings which drops slightly the quality of the Zee5 original .The direction is pretty impressive considering the fact that Sonam Nair is known for directing comedy tv series. The topic is a sensitive one and she has shown maturity to deal with it.Pratik shah's spectacular camera work has given the series another plus point to boast of.The way Kashmir is captured as both beautiful and insecure ,gorgeous but dangerous is worth applauding. The title song composed by Ravi Singhal and sung by Abhay Jodhpurkar,Asees Kaur equally resonates with us for a long time and fits in the series .
Mohit Raina as Vedant Rathore is very impressive and fits in the role like water, his performance has been equally complemented by Diya Mirza who has been at her best portraying her character'svulnerabilities.Dia Mirza captures the innocence .The genuineness of her character is well enough to gain sympathy from the viewers. The rest of the characters are half baked and not given a chance to flourish and doesn't add much to the story although the situation demands it to be.Sometimes the subsequent plot developments are very premature and acts as an hindrance to the story telling.
Overall a good series to watch
