The horseback riders are attacked by the bandits and the king is displeased. The good news is two heroes are on the way, Cherry Pie and some guy. They are also attacked en route. This first fight sequence starts poorly with a shaky camera and too many close ups. Yet, good energy comes across to save it. Our male hero is injured and another male hero steps in to rescue them.
They make it to town and the story drags a bit with getting help at the inn and a love interest sparks between Cherry and the new hero.
A bandit kills the wounded hero that night and makes off with a book. Though it is not shown on screen our girl is also found dead. This leads to an abrupt change of plot to a murder mystery. The new hero is framed plus his mother is arrested to force a false confession. As if that wasn't enough off the rails a female ghost flies in.There's more as Wise Man Woo also drops out of the clear blue sky to help mother.
All of the confusion comes to a final fight where the dead come back to life and the mask comes off to reveal the only possible person the audience would have expected all along.
Here's a movie that tosses everything but the kitchen sink at you. It doesn't work, it doesn't make sense, but it is only about 76 minutes long and watching it once is okay but I do not plan to watch it again.
My copy is the Ocean Shores VHS converted to a computer file. It plays as typical square VHS with the sides chopped off and is dubbed in English by some guys I never heard before. Yes, there are three movies with the very same title. Here at IMDB they have the same poster for the Chang Ching-Ching and the Jennie Hu movie. At HKMDB this movie is listed as a 1973 release with the alternate title of "Soul of Samurai". I always start my reviews with a brief description of the opening scenes so the reader can compare and determine if we are looking at the same movie.
