John Cherry the director of this movie and of most of the other Ernest movies said he thought this was the best of the Ernest movies.

When Ernest and the elves are orbiting the Earth in the sleigh, the picture of the Earth shows that it's daytime in the Western Hemisphere, but Ernest's sleigh ride took place at night.

Some VHS and DVD prints have slightly different opening and closing credit sequences, notably some have "and Douglas Seale as Santa Claus," while others just have "and Douglas Seale." The closing credits on some prints also feature smaller type.
