Curiosidades
At a pre-screening of this movie, the audience was given 3-D glasses as they entered the theater. After several minutes into the "blurry" film, distorted by the 3-D glasses everyone donned, the pre-screeners realized the film was not in 3-D. The audience had been duped, but it was unclear by whom. (Cincinnati, 1982)

When Ted Striker is attempting to land the shuttle, he makes reference to the events of Aterriza como puedas (1980) and talks about landing a Boeing 767 in Chicago. In "Airplane!" he was landing a Boeing 707. The Boeing 767 was not in service until 1982.

After the ending credits roll off the screen, a commercial comes up that says "Coming from Paramount Pictures: Airplane III". Then William Shatner, as Buck Murdock, comes on and says "That's exactly what they'll be expecting us to do!"

Versiones alternativas
Network TV version includes extra footage, including a scene where budget passengers are tossed out of a moving airplane on tethers. Another showing the President (Reagan impersonator) plus, a few additional gags, here and there.

Lukewarm sequel

The makers of "Airplane II: The Sequel" simply took every joke from the first one and made it again. This gets boring after a while. People taking things too literally is so overused in this movie it's getting painful (like the "trip" scene - ouch!). There are one or two good moments, though (some William Shatner scenes and the 2001 waltz spoof) and it's a good thing that the main cast (excluding Leslie Nielsen & Robert Stack) from "Airplane!" returned for this one. All in all, "Airplane II: The Sequel" is watchable but I'm glad that they never made a third part. It only could have gone downhill from the original, anyway.
