Reseña destacada
It is taut , engrossingly intricate , and intriguing thriller resulting in a decent climax at an attraction park in which occurs a furious and violent gun battle . It stills works well enough , even though some flaws , gaps and failures . After stealing a coveted diamond in Paris , a notorious thief called Bell Farmer (Howard Vernon) swindles his companions in crime and escapes with it . Bell arrives in Amberes on the run from the police, there, after selling a fake of the prized jewel , he runs away again, in this case to Barcelona. Then he travels to Barcelona to try to sell it. However, in the city of Barcelona, both the Police (whose commissario chief Manuel Gas assigns the case to José Marco) and a former associate (Luis Induni) try to catch him , then Farmer has to face his destiny .
The film is aligned with the Barcelones police cinema that began in 1950 with ¨Apartado de Correos 1001¨ (by Julio Salvador) and ¨Brigada Criminal¨ (by Ignacio F. Iquino) , which , like these inaugural films of the classic criminal genre , are based on true events. ¨Fugitivo de Amberes¨shows a preference for natural spaces rather than interior studios, a model taken from the USA Noir Film genre, especially ¨The House on 92nd Street¨ (1945) by Henry Hathaway , ¨The Naked City (1948) by Jules Dassin and ¨Port of New York¨ (1949) by Laslo Benedek . In fact, El fugitivo de Amberes (1955) is a nice film that contributed to consolidate the realistic trend of the Barcelona criminal variant , along with other titles like ¨Mercado Prohibido¨ (1951) by Xavier Setó and ¨Relato Policiaco¨ (1954) by Antonio Isasi Isasmendi . The low-key interpretations contribuye effectively to the sense of actuality despite some clumsy mistakes . Actors give uniformly acceptable and passable acting . El fugitivo de Amberes (1955) is starred Howard Vernon as the cunning thief who steals a Jewel in France , giving a so-so acting in his usual style , but the real starring is the unjustly unknown secondary actor José Marco as a stubborn police Inspector who goes after him along with an insurance investigator played by the French Anouk Ferjac .
This nice film ¨El fugitivo de Amberes(1955) belongs to the Spanish Film Noir of the Fifties and Sixties , whose main center was in Barcelona and Madrid at times ; other great titles also located within a Barcelona or Madrid production are the following ones : "Distrito Quinto" (1957) by Julio Coll , ¨Brigada criminal¨(1950) by Ignacio F Iquino , ¨A sangre fría (1959)¨by Juan Bosch , ¨Un vaso de Whisky¨ by Julio Coll , "A Tiro Limpio" (1963), by Francisco Pérez-Dolz , ¨El precio de un asesino¨ (1963) by Miguel Lluch, ¨091 Policia al habla¨ by Jose Maria Forqué , Crimen (1964) by Miguel Lluch and the best one resulted to be "Los Peces Rojos" (1955) by José Antonio Nieves Conde .
This low-budgeted production that brings most of the roles of the classsic Noir Film was professionally filmed by Miguel Iglesias , though it has some shortcomings and failures . This craftsman was a compelling Spanish filmmaker who made all kinds of genres : adventure , comedy , drama , thriller with skillness and intelligence enough , such as : Barcelona Connection , Las Hijas del Cid , Destino: Estambul 68 , Después del gran robo , ¡Cómo te amo!
