Poor Aubrey

Franklin Pangborn is fussing with his toupee, hoping to impress wife. Helen Ferguson's friend. However, neither she nor her mother, Clara Blandick, will stand stand for Pangborn's self-aggrandizing taradiddles.

It's a playlet by George Kelly that was expanded into his play THE SHOW-OFF, that was made into film versions four times from 1928 through 1946. It's an effort in peribathos, the deliberate attempt to be silly by means of taking some trivial subject very seriously -- only Alexander Pope made much of the form, and he had to do it in overwritten poetry for the effect. Still, it is an interesting acting exercise.
