First of all, I don't really understand the English title of this 2017 Chinese romantic comedy. I mean, "All My Goddess", what does that even mean?
Regardless, I stumbled upon this movie by random chance here in 2023. And with my fascination of the Asian cinema, and not having seen or even heard about it before, of course I sat down to watch what director Clifton Ko had to offer.
And that wasn't a whole lot actually. The storyline in "All My Goddess" was about as interesting and entertaining as wet paint. I struggled to keep afloat while the movie trotted on and on at a very slow pace. And the fact that nothing interesting happened in the narrative, and the lack of interesting characters just made it an ordeal to suffer through. And I manage to sit through 40 excruciatingly long minutes before I threw the towel in the ring and gave up out of sheer and utter boredom.
The narrative in "All My Goddess" failed to entertain me, as it just felt like a balloon filled with hot air. Nothing solid to the storyline or script, and the characters were just one-dimensional caricatures without personality or traits. Nothing to like there.
And despite having a fair cast ensemble, then the actors and actresses were just fighting an already lost uphill battle.
"All My Goddess" was lacking major elements in both the comedy and romance department, which ultimately made this a terrible movie to sit through.
This is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on. Nor is it a movie that I will ever return to attempt finish watching. I just simply don't care an ounce about the storyline, nor of the characters in the movie.
My rating of director Clifton Ko's 2017 romantic comedy lands on a generous two out of ten stars.
