A stranger in the house

Violent, cheaply made thriller about a teenage girl with a painful secret forcing her to seek refuge with unsavoury associates (who may be more dangerous than the evil at home).

Deveaux does a good job with a script full of perfunctory dialogue and hopelessly contrived situations, whilst the experienced Trickey also excels in a physical role as her ignorant mother. Aside from those two, the remaining cast and characters are painfully uneven, potentially a symptom of the low production values (I noticed also either the framing or wardrobe seems to be occasionally off revealing highly visible makeup lines in some shots).

Has a seedy, uncomfortable urban feel that adds some realism, but there's more than a few plot holes and illogical situations that will either make you shake your head or chuckle with bemusement. Very average telemovie.
