Reseña destacada
Based on the autobiographical comic book by Paco Roca , detailing the somewhat monotonous existence of and his relationships with his close friends and when he finally finds a desired girlfriend. This is the story of Paco (Raúl Arévalo) , a 40-year-old, confirmed bachelor who, in the prime of his life, realizes a childhood dream: to work at home in his pajamas. Just when he's reached the zenith of personal happiness, however, into his life walks Jilguero (the name means "Birdie" in Spanish). The latter is a girl (María Castro) he falls in love with who must get used to the fact that her man's main objective in life is to remain at home in his pajamas.
Spanish animated film for adults that adapts the graphic novel by Paco Roca , author of the award-winning comic ¨Arrugas¨ that was also transferred to the big screen with a resounding critical success in 2011. A simple and straightforward animated cartoon about the life of a forty-something single man and his difficulties at work and in love. Focusing on a young man whose greatest aspiration is to work in his pajamas, and he actually achieves that goal, he is a bachelor but in the film he is tempted by the fate of Cupid and inevitably falls in love with a girl who satisfies his desires. This is also a story about the bachelors, the couples, and friends who, through their hilarious anecdotes, influence their lives and work relationship.
The animation of this translation from comic book to screen is not bad, being acceptable and passable enough. It brings more textures, lights and volume to the images of the original comic book but maintains its proportions and atmosphere. The many scraps that made up the comic appear in a recognizable way in the film.
The plot of the film has nothing special, it is the experiences of the scriptwriter/writer and comic book artist. The protagonist is a cartoonist with little luck in love and whose only desire is to work from home and in pajamas. He gets a job as a cartoonist in a newspaper. After joining, the young man falls at the feet of an attractive journalist who also admires his drawings. But what stands out here is the wonderful animated drawing, made based on clear and simple lines, which is quite attractive to watch, though some drawn shots are pretty static.
The character was already developed from the comic books and for me it is clear what his strong points and weak points are . I consider these memoirs of a man in pajamas to be a good adaptation, but not an excellent film. It works when it manages to connect with that very real side that many readers will recognize. But when it tries to make something that is ordinary sensational, we find a formula that does not work at times. We are expected to empathize with the character, although in many aspects we will feel aligned with him. It is a diary in motion that may be of interest to some, but apart from the artist issues I mentioned before, I don't see any relevance in it. This is a story with pathos, generational winks, couple scenes, and social relations that fail to fill themselves with the good vibes and authentic complexity that corresponds to it. Its message is empty, In fact, what our protagonist advocated throughout the film ends up contradicting itself as he falls into conventional life and the usual family conventions. That's why there's no perception of a whole that defines the film in a justified way.
The voice-over is by the well-known actor Raúl Arévalo, who also gives an attractive performance as the protagonist, adjusting adequately to the type. Together with the actress María Castro, who also adapts well to the character, as well as Manuel Manquiña, voice of Mensajero.
The movie incorporates pleasant music and original songs from ¨Love of lesbian¨ , in fact he sum of anecdotes that we see are accompanied by the songs, it seems like a promotional video for the group, which I can't say I'm a fan of either. The motion picture was professionally directed by Carlos Fernandez de Vigo (Carlos FerFer, his film debut) who's known for shorts as Amanece la noche más larga (2022), Cafunè (2024), Tesla_3327 and Skizo. Memorias de un hombre en pijama(2018) got some awards and nominations, such as: Cinema Writers Circle Awards, 2019 Nominee CEC Award Best Animated Film Carlos Fernandez de Vigo. Goya Awards Memorias de un hombre en pijama (2018) 2019 Nominee Goya Best Animation Film. Málaga Spanish Film Festival 2018 Nominee Golden Biznaga Best Spanish Film Carlos Fernandez de Vigo.
