A native of Southern California, Shannon Jimenez has earned praise for
her work in screenwriting. Her greatest accolade came when The Walt
Disney Studios selected Jimenez out of 3,000 writers to become one of
just four 2004 Disney Writing Fellows for feature film.
Jimenez won first place in the 2000 Texas Film Institute's (TFI) screenwriting competition for her comedy Sharing Sharon and was also a finalist in the 1999 TFI Screenwriting Competition for her screenplay, In God's Shadow. Jimenez's first original screenplay, Cry of the Hathi, was honored in 1997 when Jimenez was named the only woman recipient of the UCLA Screenwriting Award that year. Both Sharing Sharon and Cry of the Hathi were optioned.
Jimenez has held pre- and post-production and development positions for numerous entertainment companies throughout Los Angeles, including the THX Division of LucasFilm Ltd., and Marty Katz Productions, formerly at The Walt Disney Studios. The youngest person accepted to the program that term, she completed the Filmic Writing Summer Program at the USC School of Cinema Television in 1988, as well as the UCLA Professional Screenwriting Program in 1997 and the UCLA Advanced Professional Screenwriting Program in 1998.
After completing the Fellowship, Disney contracted Jimenez to continue working on Hum, the supernatural thriller she wrote during the Fellowship. At the time, Jimenez was the only features Fellow in the 15-year history of the program to be hired immediately following the program in order to further develop her own material.
In 2005 Jimenez was honored to be a guest panelist at Edward James Olmos' fête, the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) and featured in an Inner City Filmmakers (ICF) production. Jimenez also served as a featured panelist at the 2006 Austin Film Festival and Screenwriter's Conference. In 2007, Jimenez appeared as a panelist at UCLA's Entertainment Networking event. Since her successful completion of the Fellowship, Jimenez has also been involved with several networking and outreach events on behalf of Disney/ABC.
In 2011 she and writing partner Terri Spaugh became 2nd Rounders at the Austin Film Festival with their first television script, a dramatic series pilot titled The Savoy. Jimenez and Spaugh formed Illuminandi Media in 2012 to solidify their efforts as writer/producers in film and television. As of 2013, they are at work on several feature films, including an adaptation of celebrated horror author Mark Tufo's Zombie Fallout book series. In addition, both The Savoy and docuseries Athletes Ink are in development for major networks.
Jimenez earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Television from the School of Theater, Film and Television at UCLA. She is a member of NALIP and the WGAw.
