Passionate and versatile director and screenwriter from Estonia, with
extensive experience in short movies, documentaries and television.
Leeni graduated Film Directing BA from The Baltic Film and Media School in 2010 with her heart-stirring début documentary The Messenger ("Sõnumitooja" 2010) about young Tibetan refugees sending messages to their distant families back home.
Her latest movie, a reflective war documentary Blood Type ("Veregrupp" 2013)about Estonian soldiers in Afghanistan was a success in cinemas across the country and has earned her the nickname Estonian Kathryn Bigelow.
Leeni's first feature fiction movie,a war-drama Soldier Mother, which she has written and developed through the prestigious MEDIA Sources 2 program is expected to be in production next year. As she continues to be drawn to extreme challenges and serious topics, there's a new short action fiction movie by her, A Pilot Without Wings, now in production, premiere date expected in December 2014.
