Grandfather, Maurice Ruddick, is portrayed in a national Canadian Heritage Commercial on racism. Ruddick, an African-Canadian, was one of the survivors of The Springhill Mining Disaster. The commercial deals with his segregation in Georgia, U.S.A. when the surviving miners were invited to vacation by the Governor of the state.
