The Lover Speaks: No More I Love You's

If you're here you're either a fan of The Lover Speaks or were just shocked to find out that the song known because of Annie Lennox and her successful hit in 1995 was actually a cover. I'm part of the latter, and I was really blown away when I discovered this original version which sounds completely different than what Annie did. It has a controlled pop/rock beat inclined to a gothic sound - but the 'Do-be-do-be-do-do-do (oh)' bits are there too!

The obscure music video presents a performance from the lead singer in between moments of tormented sleep/nightmares at night, and even some sexually suggestive images all presented through a foggy and blurred effect captured with a black-and-white cinematography. It's all very mysterious and enigmatic, and with the somber vocals from the man and slightly colorful because when the female voice echoes the 'do-be-do...' repetitive bits, the combination between images and sounds makes a nice blend of elements. It's very suitable.

However, one must admit (and one of composers actually did that in 2015) that Annie Lennox version is a far superior song with its beautiful use of instruments, her elegant voice and performance of the song where you can see some magic in it (and the artistic videos with the transvestitve ballerinas in the late 1800's setting is amazing). Yet I got a little addicted to this version, there's always times when I feel the need to hear it. It's quite good, very dark. 8/10.
