The Nutty Boy is a known comic book series here in Brazil, as to the likes of Monica's Gang. Outside of the comic series, it only had forgettable live-action movies until now.
This show surprised me because, as far as i know, there wasn't any Brazilian show, unlike Jorel's brother in 2014 on Cartoon Network, that reached this level of quality, culture representation, likability and modern appearance as this one, considering it's the first Netflix Brazilian cartoon.
The designs of the backgrounds and characters seems to be very inspired by Hilda, another high quality Netflix show: colorful, vivid, delicious to look at and appreciate.
Nutty is a quirky and imaginative boy with unique traits, such as his appearance and disagreeing to skip class to help his friend Juliet, because he was actually interested in physics. The same can be said about Nutty's parents, which might be the most likable parents in any cartoon I've seen, as they are supportive of his goals, his energy and share same interests.
Nutty's friends are also unique and nice, but Juliet gets more praise here for having that gigantic appealing black hair.
The show has continuity, as characters discuss the things Nutty has done in previous episodes and we see recurring supportive and background characters, all of them also uniquely designed and memorable.
The English dub is fantastic, as all the jokes and references are almost perfectly adapted to be just as funny and interesting.
Being a Brazilian show, of course the cultural references are all accurate and relives childhood memories, such as calling your teacher your mom, foods such coxinhas and pasteis, and the Festa Junina.
With episodes being 11 minutes, the show felt very fast paced at the first, however it gets much better at later episodes, making at times jokes land just right.
The first episodes maintained a slice-of-life theme until later episodes, presenting fantasy themes such as clay golems and talking wedding dresses, which is exciting, because it fits the main character and his vivid imagination, which can lead to awesome plots and stories, just like the show Hilda which i mentioned previously.
It seems this show haven't picked up steam with the animation community just yet, as it got released a few months ago, but i can say with certainty this show sits besides other modern high quality shows like Hilda, Twelve Forever, The Owl House, The Loud House, Amphibia, Glitch Techs, Kid Cosmic, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe and many other shows(this list would've gone on forever).
