On the Fringe

"En los márgenes" is a confusing and rushed film with a disjointed narrative. It portrays immigrants and evictees in a simplistic, classist manner, far from reality. The characters' ideologies clash with their lifestyles, and the film lacks the coherence and depth of "Solas." Juan Diego Botto's direction disappoints, offering a moralistic view that feels preachy. The film undermines the struggles of the poor, lawyers, and mothers, presenting them as failures rather than heroes. Performances are unremarkable, and the story seems to push for already-held societal values without adding new perspectives. Penélope Cruz stands out, but even her performance can't save this muddled, disappointing piece.
