I missed the start of this when I saw it and thought that it may have actually been a documentary. Part of me wanted to turn over due to the sadness of the individual on screen (I had never seen Johnny Vegas before this show) but I needed to know if the subject matter was real or not. Vegas skirted the edge so finely that by the end of the highly entertaining program I still didn't know if it was fact or fiction. The encouragement of sensations of discomfort is a subject matter that Vegas has toyed with quite well since this program. His 18 stone of idiot has shown this to be the case, I realised when watching it with friends and being the only one laughing. He understands that the rewards are great when you use the 'danger' element of comedy. The whisky may have been to blame but I found "The Johnny Vegas Television Show" very compelling to watch as this wanna-be 'entertainer' plaguing everyone he met, epitomised pathos in every way. As well as danger there are guilty laughs as you feel you shouldn't be finding it so funny, still you find you can't change over. There are important psychological games and dramas acted out during this program and they will not be taken in at first glance. He seems adamant that he will make us sit up and pay attention to very mundane goings on and makes them as funny as possible to avoid losing our attention. I rarely find most things branded as comedy funny, I joined IMDb just to say these things that I have felt strongly about since it was aired. Vegas will appeal to high brow and low brow alike.
