Ausgewählte Rezension
This is a 1960's sexploitation film from the irrepressible David Friedman (just try and repress him!). It's relatively big-budget for one of these kinds of films in that it's a "costume drama" (but they obviously saved a lot of money by having the female cast rarely wearing their "costumes"). It is actually a very cheap movie with very little synch sound--it is narrated mostly by voice-over as characters write letters back and forth to each other relating the various events. This is no doubt a good thing as nobody here can act (unfortunately, the people doing the voice-overs can't do that either).
The plot involves an "Englishwoman", played by an American actress who makes no attempt at a British accent (but then I'm sure she wasn't cast for her accent). While sailing somewhere for some reason, she and her equally voluptuous hand-maiden are kidnapped by "Turkish" pirates and end up in two separate seraglios with two Turkish princes. The woman is corresponding with her sister-in-law back in England (apparently they had a really good postal service between the Ottoman Empire and England at that time). In the funniest scene, the sister-in-law is walking on an "English" beach (it looks more like California), while a letter she had apparently just written back to the protagonist is heard in voice-over when SHE herself is kidnapped by "Turkish" pirates--"On no! Help!", the letter breaks off.
I actually lived in Turkey for two years and the actors in this movie look NOTHING like Turks (they have two distinct eyebrows for one thing). Seriously, though the Turks are a much better looking people than the actors that play them here. Turkey literally has some of the most beautiful women in the world, for instance, but there are no actual Turkish women in the supporting cast (believe it or not though, the Turks themselves were actually making exploitation movies like this in the 60's and 70's, which I would encourage anyone to check out if you want to see some REAL Turkish women). I can't complain too much about the three "English" actresses (except when they try to act, then I can complain a lot). Keep in mind though this a tame nudie movie and quite a long way from any kind of graphic sex film. It's OK though for what it is.
