A riveting analysis of the unlikely yet ultimately productive fusion of the reggae culture and the mid 70s punk explosion as seen through the eyes and lens of the much underrated Don Letts. He tells the story of his teenage years in London his reggae roots and how he,his beloved dub music and the emerging punk scene entwined musically and culturally in the No Future decade of mass unemployment, political mis guidance and of course homophobia.
Shot entirely on his 8mm camera, Letts captures the bands the atmosphere and the social climate wonderfully and delivers one of ,if not THE best video diaries of this most turbulent of times both musically and socially. It really is essential viewing for anyone interested in modern music with excellent footage inside the legendary Roxy club during its 100 days existence, gig footage of The Clash, The Damned et al and especially John Lydons post Pistols visit to Jamaica before returning here to form PIL.
The DIY philosophy of the film sits comfortably with the punk ethic and goes a long way to explaining why these teen movements inspired and influenced so many artists in the years to follow. Riveting stuff.
