From a rough part of Flint, Michigan, and a dysfunctional home, Claressa Sheilds finds a safe haven in boxing. At 16, Claressa became a national champion and set her eyes on winning an Olympic gold medal and changing her life. Despite making history, things did not go as expected, and she must figure out if she should keep fighting or stay knocked down.
This biopic tells the incredible story of Olympic gold medalist Claressa "T-Rex" Shields. It sheds light on her life, the challenges she had to overcome, and her many accomplishments. The story also shows the restrictive rules and regulations of the Olympics, the pay disparity of female athletes both in and out of the Olympics, and the hardship the city and the people of Flint face. The boxing sequences were well done, focusing more on the technical aspect. The many themes of the movie make the runtime of one hour and forty-nine minutes feel long since the transitions between them are slow. Despite the runtime, this is an excellent movie, sharing the story of an Olympian who made history and changed women's sports. It is a must-watch for any sports and history fan.
